Below are some of the jobs that our crew members perform. Above all, we look for positive attitudes, a friendly proactive demeanor and a willingness to assist wherever needed.

The majority of the positions we have available will require you to stand for significant periods of time. In many instances, you may be required to walk some distance. Some positions may require that you lift heavier objects, probably not more than 25lbs. Planet Provides is committed to assisting anyone with special needs or requirements find the best fit for them as a crew member.

The following descriptions provide you with some general definitions of the work available for new crew members. Positions that are not listed are either already staffed or are by invite only.

ADA Services: (Thursday – Sunday)

These crew members will provide a variety of support roles for attendees facing challenges with mobility, sight and hearing as well as people who struggle with PTSD or anxiety disorders. These crew members might also help with escorting youngsters facing serious health challenges onto the exhibit floor so they can experience Planet Comicon to the fullest.


After Hours Activities: (Thursday – Sunday)

Crew Members will check-in registered participants, provide event set-up, event teardown and monitor guests at a variety of after hours parties and events. Most of these events start after the exhibit hall closes for the day.


Artist’s Alley: (Thursday – Sunday)

Floor Monitors:

We will want you to hang out, answer questions, and monitor the Artist’s Alley area. Members will strive to ensure guest satisfaction and provide customer service, keeping an eye out for anyone not wearing the correct credentials. It will not be your responsibility to confront Patrons or Exhibitors. If anyone is observed being a nuisance or not wearing proper credentials a superior should be informed and brought in to the process.

Table Sitters:

Provide building guide services and table sitting for artists.


Communications Center: (Wednesday – Sunday)

Signage:

These crew members will distribute convention signage to the various parts of the venue during the load-in days and then will collect them and store them during load-out.

Communication dispatch:

Signage Crew Members (Wed, Thurs, Sun) will distribute convention signage to the various parts of the venue during the load-in days (Wed & Thurs) then collect convention signage and store them during load-out (Sunday post show).

Communication dispatch Crew Members (Thursday – Sunday) will monitor radio traffic & Communication Center phones.  Respond to all communications by contacting the correct party needed, through the use of radios, cell phones, or physically to resolution. Document all calls of an emergency nature.  They will ensure all radios are fully charged and be responsible for checking radios in/out on a daily basis.  

Credential Monitors:

Crew Members will be stationed at vulnerable entry points to ensure that people entering are properly credentialed. It will not be your responsibility to confront Patrons or Exhibitors, if anyone is observed being a nuisance or not wearing proper credentials a superior should be informed and brought in to the process.


Cosplay Contests: (Thursday – Sunday)  Crew may be assigned to the following:

Checkin Helper: During the day Friday & Saturday

Will help with the process of checking in the contestants during the day on Friday and Saturday. Helpers are also used during the Masquerade Parade and the Children’s Cosplay Showcase.

Prejudge helper: Saturday during the day

Will help with the prejudging of the contestants.

Contest Helper: Saturday

Saturday starting approximately 6pm will help with the actual production of the Cosplay Contest. Helpers are also used during the Masquerade Parade and the Children’s Cosplay Showcase.


Digital and Media Team: (Thursday – Sunday)

Photographers:

Experienced photographers will capture assigned convention activities and turn those images in to the media team.

Videographers:

Experienced videographers will capture assigned convention activities and turn those images in to the media team.

Press Coordination Team:

Manage the engagement with the local, regional, and national level press. This combines both Tier-1 traditional press, such as TV, Radio, and Newspapers, as well as new-media outlets including blogs, genre websites, podcasters, etc.

Social Media Editors:

Works with department heads to plot out a cohesive and vibrant online personality and newsfeed across the social networks. From Twitter to Facebook to Instagram to the Website, they’ll be selecting content to push out both before and during the event, day and night. If a panel gets moved or a guest has to cancel, this team will be forefront in helping to get the word out.


Exhibition Floor: (Wednesday – Sunday as noted)

Check-in: (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday am)

Assist with vendor check-in at the loading docks (north dock, south dock, west dock) across the convention hall before Planet Comicon Kansas City starts. Duties include: Gathering information (surveys, vendor info, feedback, etc), checking in exhibitors and making sure they have their credentials and information.

Load In/Load Out:

Load-In (Wednesday and Thursday during the day and on Friday morning before the show starts). 

Consists of checking people in, helping vendors find their spots (including traffic control inside and outside of the hall and dock areas), guiding them, answering questions. You are not there to load-in vendor stock. You are there to provide information and direction.  

Load-out (Sunday 2-5 hours after the show closes).

Assist in making sure vendors are packing up and heading out. This includes traffic control and parking inside and outside of the hall and dock area. Additionally, a group of crew members will assist with collecting, packing up and moving out Planet Provides office materials and supplies, signage, etc. The ability to carry up to 25 lbs is required.

Zone Leads: Thursday – Sunday.

Responsibilities include, patrolling the exhibit hall answering questions for Exhibitors and Patrons, providing information about the show, guests and facilities as needed. Keeping an eye out for hazards, including debris, spills, and crowd blockage or anyone not wearing the proper credentials. It will not be your responsibility to confront Patrons or Exhibitors, if anyone is observed being a nuisance or not wearing proper credentials a superior should be informed and brought in to the process.


Line Control: Friday – Sunday

Line Control team members will greet attendees and assist with providing directions and keeping the lines orderly for different events such as panels, front line (FOH) entry to the show, etc. This involves some crowd control and a lot of standing. You may be assigned an indoor OR an outdoor position throughout the complex.


Guest Services: (Thursday thru Sunday)

Hospitality Host:

These crew members are stationed at official guest hotels and assist with transportation and registration for our invited guests. shifts exist. These positions are generally not open to first time crew members.


Info Booth/Lost and Found: (Thursday-Sunday)

Booth Crew Member:

Answers questions from our attendees. We provide training and information for this. Central location for lost and found.

INFO Walkers:

Carry “ASK ME A QUESTION” signs and provide information to attendees in various points in and around the convention exhibit floor.


Merchandise Booth:  (Wednesday Thru Sunday)

This is where Planet Comicon merchandise is sold. You will assist with setting up, selling, and stocking merchandise as well as, packing up and inventory at the close of the show on Sunday.


Crew Member Check In:  (Wednesday – Sunday)

Involves checking in crew members and dispatching them to their assigned locations. Assisting with deployment of on-call crew members as requested. Will also distribute tee shirts and meal tickets.


Planet Entertainment Zone(PEZ):  (Wednesday – Sunday)

Floor Walker:

Patrolling the PEZ floor area, answering attendee and exhibitor questions and helping exhibitors with their needs.

Stage Hand:

Will help presenters set up and take down their equipment from the PEZ stage. Will also assist with the Kids cosplay contest on Sunday.  The ability to carry up to 25 lbs is required.


Planet Kids 

PK Helper: 

Helps with coloring, crafting and play activities with children, in an area set aside for young children’s entertainment. You are not a babysitter, parents are required to stay with their children.


Programming/Panels:  (Thursday – Sunday)

Front of House:

General duties will include overseeing the setting up multiple panel room name tents. Ensuring there is water for panelists. Confirm all equipment is functioning for the assigned panel room. Setting the stage to the panelists needs. Showing respect to each panelist, crew member and guest alike.

Back of House:

Set up the stage for panels (chairs, water, other items as needed), make sure mics are handed out, collect mics and escort talent off stage as needed.


Registration/Will Call: (Thurday – Sunday)

Will Call:

Check in area for those picking up pre purchased credentials. There is use of IPAD technology.  Training is provided.

FOH Line Control:

You are there to greet attendees and assist with providing directions and keeping the lines orderly for different areas at show entry. This involves crowd control and a lot of standing. You may be assigned an indoor OR an outdoor position throughout the complex.


Wherever needed/On Call: (Thursday – Sunday)

Being available on site for your assigned shift to fill in where/when needs arise. Examples might be areas that are overloaded, crowd control, or if someone doesn’t work/show up for their shift. This is a crucial position.
